What is DawgToolz

DawgToolz is a growing collection of free, no-nonsense utility tools. It started with a single PDF signer and has since expanded to cover PDF editing, image conversion, GPX route generation, fitness calculators, and more. The idea is straightforward: there are a lot of everyday tasks that should be quick and free, without having to hand over your files to some server or create yet another account.

What is on here

Right now the site has tools across seven categories:

• PDF - sign, merge, split, compress, rotate, watermark, add page numbers, unlock, edit, convert to and from JPG
• Image - convert PNG, WebP, and JPG between formats, blur images, edit SVG files, extract colour palettes, convert HEIC to PNG
• Convert - CSV, Excel, and XML to JSON; markdown to Excel, Notion, and PDF
• Map - generate GPX files for cycling and running routes, view GPX files on a map
• Fitness - running fuel calculator, rave hydration calculator
• Text - word counter, markdown table compactor, remove line breaks
• Utility - tools that do not fit neatly into the above

More gets added when there is a clear gap for something simple and useful.

How it works

Nearly every tool on DawgToolz runs entirely in your browser. When you load a file, it stays on your device. Nothing gets sent to a server, stored anywhere, or seen by anyone else. This is possible thanks to modern browser APIs and libraries like pdf-lib, PDF.js, and the File API.

There are two exceptions. The route tools send GPS coordinates to third-party routing and elevation APIs to calculate routes. The HEIC to PNG tool sends image files to our own server-side API, since browser support for that format is not reliable enough to do it locally. In both cases, no data is stored after the request completes.

Why free

Because the tools are cheap to run. There is no server crunching files on every request, no storage costs, no heavy infrastructure. The processing happens on your device, so the only real cost is hosting a static site. Ads cover that. They are kept unobtrusive, nothing that pops up in your face or blocks the tool from working.
